Big Mountain Ski Film Deadline Nears in Methven
Methven, New Zealand - The clock is ticking for entrants in the inaugural Big Mountain Film Competition, being held this season on Mt. Hutt.
Methven District Heritage Project ski committee members say they are waiting with anticipation for entries to roll in for the competition, which ends this Monday. Films must be shot on Mt. Hutt in 2008, and be at the Mt. Hutt Office, on Main Street in Methven by 5 p.m. local time to be eligible.
With just a few days remaining to enter, and thousands of dollars in equipment and 2009 Mt. Hutt Season Passes up for grabs it is an exciting time, said Mt. Hutt Ski Area Manager David Wilson.
“We’ve already had our first entry and we’re hoping for great things, it’s a fantastic prize pool and there’s lots of scope for individuals, schools and families to take part,” he said.
Wilson also commented he is thrilled to be able to announce two of the celebrity judges for the competition. Independent film producer Lisa Chattfield, a former production executive of international film company “Working Title” and producer of “Scarfies”, one of New Zealand’s most successful feature films will be judging entries, alongside Peter Young of Christchurch’s Fish-Eye Films. Young, who is currently producing the popular television series “Hunger for the Wild”, cut his film-making teeth making ski films in Wanaka.
“It is really exciting to have judges of this calibre and experience looking at our entries, it takes the competition to a whole new level,” said Wilson.
The competition is a charity fundraiser for the planned re-development of the Mt. Hutt Memorial Hall, and creation of New Zealand’s first interactive ski experience. Prizes will be awarded at a function on Friday, October 3.
