Mt Hutt Ski Area in Canterbury has set the first ever Guinness Book of Records record for the Largest Snowboard Race in the World in association with THE ROCK radio station.

83 snowboarders took part in the record setting race by taking on a 500m course complete with gates on the Mt Hutt race circuit in Chinese Downhill style.

The winner, Rob Schiphorst of Mt Hutt received $700 cash in prize money.

The record was verified by Chris Sheedy an Australian based official from the Guinness Book of Records who travelled to Mt Hutt for the occasion. The race was broadcast live on THE ROCK.

Mt Hutt Ski Area Manager Dave Wilson said the record setting event was staged in beautiful weather and superb snow conditions.

“It was a really fun day on the mountain. We’ve set the record and now we aim to keep it. We’re definitely looking to get even more people involved next year.”

Following the world record setting race competitors took part in an Undie Run for prizes provided by Snow and Surf before an after party held in Methven.
