An abundance of snow on Mt Hutt has prompted ski area management to extend the closing date for this season. Initially the ski area set an opening date of October 15, but now it will stay open until Labour Weekend, with its last day of operation October 23.
We have just got so much snow and it's still really good skiing on trail and even off trail at the moment," Mr Wilson said. Skier numbers have been up 20 per cent on average due to the excess of snow which has been received this ski season.
Mr Wilson said the ski area had not received more than usual, but it was just the timing of it. Receiving snow early in the season had been a bonus.
